Journal will be on closed for awhile [Aug. 14th, 2005|08:33 am]
I have been battling depression and things have been going way wrong for the past few months and it is threatening to overtake me. I am going to be pulling back from the journaling so there will be no new entries for awhile while I try to resolve some weighty issues pressing in on me in my life.

I thank you all for visiting my journal, for giving me your comments, encouragements and even the criticisms, all of which help me to be that much better of a crafter.

Until then, take the time to let the sun shine on your face.

Industrial Straight Stitch machine [Jul. 11th, 2005|02:41 pm]
Greetings All!

I have been home sewing for years and am starting to get freelance jobs for interior decor sewing and big production type jobs. I am currently working on a Brother XL-3022 which is a few years old. I can clearly see that it has neither the horsepower nor the speed to efficiently do these mass projects.

I know that I can do the jobs but will need an industrial machine. Right now I am not doing clothing, more along the lines of quilts, duvets covers, curtains and now a new project making tabards for a sports group.

I need a professional industrial strength straight stitch and overlock. I want something that is reasonably priced. I think that as my business increases then I will step up with a more expensive machine.

Any suggestions on brand, horsepower or types of machines I should be looking for?

---------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE:
I found this...I like it because it has the faster motor, higher foot pressure AND I can quilt on it. Not too bad on the price either.
Juki TL-98Q

Thanks!!

Fabulous Dollie I want [Jul. 7th, 2005|01:35 pm]
I came across this site...AK Traditions. I simply must have a doll and all the accessories. It is so great to be an adult and be able to indulge your girlhood dollie fantasies by buying a doll and ALL of her goodies, plus they have patterns so you can make your own goodies. LOL!!

I really like this doll in particular because they use natural fibers and a simple body/face design. The clothes and the doll design just work together to make a really great doll experience(and this is just from looking at the pictures, I can only imagine how great it will be to hold one in my arms!!)

No more hoping to get a special doll and her clothes for your birthday or Christmas....I can get it NOOOOOWWWWWWWWW!!!! HAHHAHAHA!!!! <---maniacal laugh!!

anyone ever stuff a doll with sawdust? [Jul. 6th, 2005|08:25 am]
I want to make some art dolls and stuff them with sawdust or something similar so that they will be stiff. I want to make life sized ones so they need to have some stability. Probably seated dolls to begin with, I thought maybe sand in the "buttocks" of the doll so it would sit.

Anyone have any experience with something other than poly/wool fiberfill?

Homeless for 3 months - My True Story - My 1st Zine [Jun. 29th, 2005|02:08 pm]
[Tags|, ]

Greetings All!

I have finally finished transcribing my handwritten journal into a zine about me being homeless in the Fall of 2003. It's all the good, the bad, and the ugly as it happened. 120+ pages, 1/4 size. Signed

See it/Buy it here----->"Homeless for 3 months" Zine, My story

Excerpt:

...I see that being homeless, being dirty, not having proper bathroom facilities, not having a warm secure place to sleep…it is very dehumanizing. I felt ashamed and prayed that I wouldn’t run into anyone I knew. I had no desire to smile or be friendly, like I normally am. It is a very lonely, isolating experience. You feel like you have no dignity and that you are less than human. If this could happen to me, and I will get out of this....Imagine what the people, with no employable skills, who have been homeless for months or years....Imagine what life is like for them?..."

I now have a need/desire/want to help others with my crafting. To that end, $3 of every zine sale will go to sponsoring one woman for a year at this organization, Women for Women International.

I will post on my journal the progress of sponsorship and will post any letters I send her or she sends me.

New shop on Etsy.com [Jun. 28th, 2005|07:02 pm]
[info]corduroysgirl brought this site Etsy to my attention as an avenue for selling our crafty wares. I made a "shop" on there and listed my quilt blocks.

I think I might use this instead of selling directly thru my journal...just until I can get my oscommerce shop together. <---getting a headache thinking about it...LOL!!

Working 2 jobs and trying to catch up... [May. 13th, 2005|02:39 am]
Greetings to All!

I apologize if I have been absentia. I am now working two full time jobs and am still trying to balance everything else. The jobs are a blessing but my crafting has suffered. If I owe you anything, projects or e-mails, swaps or exchanges, I am working on it. Please bear with me while I catch up. I am off for the next 3 days and I will do my very best to address any issues/e-mails/whatever.

I hope that you all are enjoying your spring days!!

Domain Name... [Apr. 28th, 2005|08:52 am]
Thank you to all who weighed in on the domain name topic. After taking into account all of your great comments, I have chosen:

http://www.wildpurpledesigns.com

My target date to have it up and running is the 2nd week of May. I was shooting for May 1st, but that is a bit ambitious! :-)

Thank you again for your fantastic, encouraging support and I will post an announcement when I am open for business!

Has nothing to do with crafting... [Apr. 19th, 2005|07:26 pm]
I have recently completed losing 50 lbs and now my "girls" are smaller than half their size, I was a 42D and am now about a 34C. This is a great thing because now I can wear the pretty, itty, bitty bras and when I run, there is no "rebound" effect.

It doesn't take much to make me happy...LOL!

Opinion Please [Apr. 15th, 2005|11:27 am]
Greetings One and All!

I hope that your weekend is going to be great...the weather here should be nice and warm..

I am now ready to reserve my domain name. I have the choice of either using a 3 word domain name or hypernating 2 words..

wild-purple.com
wildpurpledesigns.com

wildpurple.com is already taken.

Since I use Wildpurple on my journal and elsewhere, I am thinking that wild-purple.com is the best option for consistency sake. However, do you think that there would be a problem with people remembering to use the hyphen and thus end up on the wrong site?

Or does someone have another word I can use besides 'designs"...that is so overworked that I just don't like it.

Would anybody be interested in quilt block kits? [Apr. 12th, 2005|04:02 pm]
Greetings All!

I am trying to come up with innovative ways of spreading my creativity and offering interesting "products".

What do you think about quilt block kits, of my original designs? Either a template/pattern(pdf file or paper) and an instructional sheet, and/or fabric selection or samples.

I create a quilt block,
make a sample for show
you can buy just the pattern/instruction sheet

or buy the pattern plus material from my stock that you choose(I post pics of my fabric, in the quanities to make the blocks)

Does this sound like something you would want to buy or otherwise be interested in?

Thanks in advance for any input!
